3 children among 5 dead in Stamford, Conn. fire

STAMFORD, Conn. - Fire tore through a house in a tony neighborhood along the Connecticut shoreline on Christmas morning, killing five people, including three children, but sparing two whom firefighters managed to rescue.Madonna Badger, who property records show bought the large Victorian home last year, was able to get out of the house, along with one other adult. The two were taken to a hospital, where a hospital supervisor says Badger was later discharged.Officials are not releasing the names or ages of the victims, or describing their relationship to each other. Badger, an ad executive in the fashion industry, is the founder of Badger & Winters Group. The company website says she is married with three children. Neighbors awakened to the sound of screaming and rushed outside to help, but they could only watch in horror as flames devoured the grand home in the pre-dawn darkness and the shocked, injured survivors were led away from the house."It is a terrible, terrible day," Mayor Michael Pavia told reporters at a news briefing at the scene of the fire. That's for sure," he said. "I've been on this job 38 years ... not an easy day."Conte said fire officials don't yet know the cause of the blaze and likely won't get clues for a few days until fire marshals can enter the structure. The identities and ages of the victims weren't released. Officials did not provide details of the relationships between the people in the home. Conte said he did not know the extent of the injuries of the two people who were rescued and taken to the hospital.By Sunday evening, the roof of the blackened house had largely collapsed. A spokesman for Stamford Hospital said one of the survivors was listed in fair condition; he did not know the condition of the other.A neighbor, Sam Cingari Jr., said he was awakened by the sound of screaming and saw that the house was engulfed by flames."We heard this screaming at 5 in the morning," he said. "The whole house was ablaze and I mean ablaze."Cingari said he did not know his neighbors, who he said bought the house last year and were renovating it.The 3,349-square foot, five-bedroom home sold for $1.7 million in December 2010, according to the Stamford assessment office's website.Charles Mangano, who lives nearby, said his wife woke him up and alerted him to the fire. There were already numerous firetrucks on the scene."I just came out as neighbor," Mangano said. "There's really nothing I could do."He told the newspaper he saw a barefoot man wearing boxers and a woman being taken out of the house. The outdoor temperature at the time was below freezing, according to the National Weather Service. The woman said, "My whole life is in there," Mangano said. "They were both obviously in a state of shock."Stamford, a city of 117,000 residents, is about 25 miles northeast of New York City."Our heart goes out to the family and friends of these people as well as the firefighters and emergency medical people, (police), and all that were on the scene and are frankly suffering as a result," Pavia said. Vitamin D: The Next Battle for the Preventive Services Task Force

Extra dietary supplement D and limescale mineral may offer some security against breaks in older individuals, but have little or no effect on cancer malignancy possibility, according to a fresh look at the healthcare proof. Some research has recommended that dietary supplement D, with or without limescale mineral, might help avoid cancer malignancy, but recent tests have reduced those desires."It changes out that as a group, all of the micronutrient vitamin supplements have been frustrating," said Dr. Erina Pollak, who minds the split of cancer malignancy avoidance at McGill Higher education in Montreal, North america, and was not involved in the new work. "Even one of the best prospects, which is dietary supplement D, is certainly no throw soak," he informed Reuters Wellness. The new review, out Wednesday in the Annals of Inner Remedies, was requested by the government-backed U.S. Protective Solutions Process Power to notify its public suggestions. It draws together 19 defacto standard tests -- so-called randomized handled tests -- on dietary supplement D with or without limescale mineral. The tests survived anywhere from seven months to seven decades and varied in size from a few million contributors to countless numbers.Only three of them revealed on cancer malignancy, however. While one little research discovered some security against cancer malignancy in postmenopausal females getting dietary supplement D and limescale mineral, the larger research discovered no advantages."I don't have assurance in any of the results because they could be opportunity results," lead specialist Mei Chung, of Tufts Medical Middle in Birkenstock boston, informed Reuters Wellness. UGG Classic-Mini 5854 Last month, another randomized handled test was launched in the Paper of Scientific Endocrinology and Metabolic process. Although it wasn't involved in Chung's review, it verifies her results. In that research, among senior citizens getting 800 IU of dietary supplement D daily for a few decades, 32 out of every 100 passed away during the research, while 33 out of every 100 individuals who did not get the dietary supplement passed away. That little difference could easily have been due to opportunity, the scientists discovered. There were no variations in fatalities from cancer malignancy or coronary disease either, just as limescale mineral also demonstrated unhelpful.According to Chung, one huge U.S. research, known as the Could Wellness Project, also revealed that females getting the vitamin supplements had higher rates of renal and kidney rocks.Marji McCullough, a healthy researchers at the National Cancer World, said her company does not counsel products to avoid cancer malignancy. "Various scientists have recommended that, but huge agreement sections have not," she informed Reuters Wellness. "There is no convincing proof currently that getting vitamin supplements will cheaper your cancer malignancy possibility."The Company of Remedies suggests that most people get 1,000 to 1,200 mg of limescale mineral per day and 600 to 800 IU of dietary supplement D. It sets a recommended maximum at 2,000 mg of limescale mineral and 4,000 IU of dietary supplement D.However, Chung's team did find a little decrease in crack possibility among older individuals existing in an school such as a elderly care, with additional dietary supplement D and limescale mineral avoiding two out of every 100 estimated breaks. But the possibility decrease was lesser for individuals existing on their own, and might have been due to opportunity, she involved.Chung, who is associate manager of the Evidence-based Practice Middle at Tufts, said that in an previously review from 2009, which investigated several possible advantages, only the crack advantage was effective.Pollak said it's possible that a few individuals who have low levels of dietary supplement D may get some advantage from it, but that doesn't guarantee everybody getting additional natural vitamins. "You can have too much of a great thing," he informed Reuters Wellness. For individuals interested in decreasing their cancer malignancy possibility, he involved, there are better ways to go than vitamin supplements. "Don't light up and stay as close as you can to your ideal weight," Pollak advised. "Those two things will definitely cheaper you cancer malignancy possibility and they will have many other advantages as well -- and there are no possible disadvantages."The U.S. Protective Solutions Process Power could not say when its new dietary supplement D recommendations will be published.

KPN joins demand for Google to help fund networks

The head of Dutch telco KPN has revived the thorny issue of whether web giants should contribute towards the wireless networks which carry their services. With mobile data increasingly providing the major growth drivers for firms like Google and Apple, they should help to upgrade the networks that support that, argued CEO Eelco Blok in an interview with Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. This reignites a debate which was sparked earlier this year by similar statements from France Telecom and others. At the time, the leading European operators, including FT, Deutsche Telekom, Vodafone and Telecom Italia, were reported to have formed an informal alliance primarily to lobby European Commission regulators and present a united front to the over the top players, particularly Google.Although these giants do periodically call on regulators to clip Google's wings in mobile web services, in recent months their attitude seems to have softened and, publicly at least, carriers like Orange have been more eager to work with their web rivals than engage in a head-to-head. But Blok is less conciliatory, saying: "They use our networks without having to make any investment. Cheap Ugg Boots This is an untenable situation in the telecom sector." However, his argument ran into the usual sinking sands which lurk round this debate, the actual mechanisms that might be involved. "I think that companies should contribute, but I do not know how," he concluded.Blok's comments seem to have been triggered by the unexpectedly rapid uptake of the WhatsApp instant messaging service in The Netherlands, which has had a serious impact on KPN's SMS revenues, though he also cited the network costs and traffic loads incurred by Apple iMessage and Google Talk. "Last summer, zero per cent of our customer base used WhatApp, now almost all of our younger smartphone customers have the service installed," he complained.Like other carriers, KPN is warning such users that they will not be able to have their cake and eat it for much longer - data charges will have to rise to provide the same quality of service, as traffic loads mushroom. KPN Mobile's consumer director, Marco Visser, recently calculated that, to maintain mobile network investment levels - and if there were no contribution from over-the-top players - customers would need to spend an average of €40 per month, while they currently spend only €24 in The Netherlands.

A look at the Plan B pill controversy

There's been a push and pull in the U.S. over age restrictions and the need for a prescription for the so-called morning-after pill.
In a surprise development that riled some and pleased others, the emergency contraceptive drug Plan B One-Step — popularly called the morning-after pill — will remain available for girls 16 and younger by prescription only.

The Food and Drug Administration had earlier announced its intentions to permit sale of the drug over-the-counter for all ages, but on Dec. 7, Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius overruled that decision.

Predictably, reproductive health advocates cried foul over the development, and proponents of conservative family values hailed it. UGG Boots Outlet

Both Sebelius and Margaret Hamburg, commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, say they made their decisions — opposing ones — based on scientific evidence. What's going on? Here's a look.

Plan B is a single 1.5-milligram dose of the synthetic hormone levonorgestrel that can decrease the chances of becoming pregnant by an estimated 59% to 94% if taken within 120 hours of unprotected sex.

That fairly broad percentage range stems in part from the uncertain science of how likely a women is to get pregnant after a single sexual encounter and where she is in her monthly cycle. Also important is when someone takes the emergency contraceptive: Effectiveness in preventing pregnancy is highest — in the 80% range — on the first day after intercourse.

"The key is to take it very early, very quickly," says Dr. Angela Chen, a UCLA obstetrician and gynecologist. "Once the egg is released, it's less effective."

The medicine works in several ways. It delays ovulation so that sperm have a reduced chance of finding an egg to fertilize before they die. And it changes the lining of the female reproductive tract in a way that slows sperm and egg transport, reducing the chances of the two coming together. UGG Kensington Boots

Those same lining changes can also inhibit implantation of a fertilized egg. This is considered an abortion by antiabortion advocates.

Plan B does not interfere with pregnancy once implantation has taken place.

Side effects of Plan B include nausea, which 1 in 4 women experience, and, less frequently, vomiting, abdominal pain, dizziness and breast tenderness. But beyond those immediate effects, doctors say Plan B is extremely safe and effective. "There are no medical contraindications, and it doesn't interact with other drugs," Chen says.

One reason it's safe is that, even though Plan B is similar to birth control pills, it has no estrogen in it — only levonorgestrel, a progestin hormone. That means Plan B does not carry the risks of blood clots that pills containing estrogen do. Also, Plan B is a single dose drug, not something women take every day.

Advocates say that restricting access to emergency contraception leaves young teens facing unwanted pregnancy. Nearly 750,00 girls aged 15-19 get pregnant each year in the US, and 59% of those pregnancies are carried to birth. "It's preposterous to allow a teen to become pregnant when there is a safe, nontoxic method to prevent that from happening," says Corinne Rocca, a researcher at UCSF's Bixby Center for Global Reproductive Health. Cheap Ugg Boots

Similar products are available over-the-counter in other countries, such as Belgium, Sweden, the Netherlands, South Africa and Thailand with no specific age restrictions. In Britain, France, Australia and China, emergency contraception can be purchased from pharmacists without a prescription but is kept behind the counter, as it is in the U.S. In Britain, buyers have to be at least 16. In France and Belgium, the medication is provided free of charge for girls younger than 18 without an age restriction.

In 2006, a two-dose formulation of the drug was approved for over-the-counter sale in the U.S. for women at least 18. In 2009, over-the-counter status for Plan B One-Step was granted for females 17 and older. The products are kept behind the counter because of the age restriction, though.

The FDA review for those decisions dates back to 2003, when an independent panel of reproductive health experts voted 23-4 to approve Plan B for all females of child-bearing potential, according to FDA spokeswoman Erica Jefferson.

Plan B's makers, Teva Pharmaceutical Industries, with U.S. headquarters in North Wales, Pa., appealed to the FDA in February to remove the prescription-only status for girls under 17. To support their application, they submitted data that specifically addressed the issues raised by dissenting committee members, which included evidence that adolescents could understand the package labeling. UGG Roxy Tall Boots

This time around, the FDA reviewed all the data and decided approval was in order. Hamburg said in a statement that she agreed with the analysis. "There is adequate and reasonable, well-supported, and science-based evidence that Plan B One-Step is safe and effective and should be approved for nonprescription use for all females of child-bearing potential," she wrote.

Sebelius directed Hamburg to deny Teva's application.

Boat tragedy linked to smuggling mastermind

As rescuers yesterday battled heavy seas in their search for survivors of the doomed boat, The Australian understands Indonesian authorities have identified the principal suspect in Saturday's boat disaster as Haji Ismail, aka Sayed Azad or Sayed Jalal.Indonesian authorities last night put the number of confirmed survivors at just 34, including a boy of about 10. The number of survivors suggest the death toll from the sinking - which occurred almost a year to the day after SIEV 221 was dashed against the rocks off Christmas Island, killing 50 - is likely to be about 200. The tragedy began about 7am local time on Saturday when the overcrowded fishing vessel capsized 40 nautical miles, or 75km, off the coast of Java.First on the scene were local fishermen who pulled men, women and children from the sea.The Australian government was notified early yesterday and has since offered Indonesian authorities the use of a P3 Orion surveillance plane and an Armidale-class patrol boat to assist in the hunt for survivors.Despite asylum-seeker policy being the subject of intense political skirmishing between the major parties this year, neither the government nor the opposition wanted to comment yesterday on what role, if any, Australia's softened border protection regime played in encouraging this latest boat. Census shows 1 in 2 people are poor or low-income

Squeezed by rising living costs, a record number of Americans -- nearly 1 in 2 -- have fallen into poverty or are scraping by on earnings that classify them as low income. The latest census data depict a middle class that's shrinking as unemployment stays high and the government's safety net frays. The new numbers follow years of stagnating wages for the middle class that have hurt millions of workers and families."Safety net programs such as food stamps and tax credits kept poverty from rising even higher in 2010, but for many low-income families with work-related and medical expenses, they are considered too `rich' to qualify," said Sheldon Danziger, a University of Michigan public policy professor who specializes in poverty. Ugg Bailey Button 5803 "The reality is that prospects for the poor and the near poor are dismal," he said. He said that while safety-net programs have helped many Americans, they have gone too far, citing poor people who live in decent-size homes, drive cars and own wide-screen TVs."There's no doubt the recession has thrown a lot of people out of work and incomes have fallen," Rector said. "As we come out of recession, it will be important that these programs promote self-sufficiency rather than dependence and encourage people to look for work."Mayors in 29 cities say more than 1 in 4 people needing emergency food assistance did not receive it. Many middle-class Americans are dropping below the low-income threshold -- roughly $45,000 for a family of four -- because of pay cuts, a forced reduction of work hours or a spouse losing a job. Yesterday, he accepted changes proposed by lawmakers to the plan, which the Senate is due to vote on by Dec. 23 following approval in the Chamber of Deputies. “We are confident that markets will react positively to the efforts Italy is making, maybe not tomorrow, but the reduction in borrowing costs that we anticipate in the coming months will help spur the economy,” Monti told the Finance and Budget Committees of the Chamber last night in Rome.

Make a meal of it

Did you know that on York Street between Wynyard and the Queen Victoria Building there are 24 places where you can buy a cup of coffee? To paraphrase that droll New Zealand-born comedian, John Clarke, if you work on York Street and don't sell coffee then clearly you are being a fool to yourself and a menace to society. UGG Classic ShortWith such an excess of coffee and breakfast eateries it is hardly surprising that The York by Swiss-Belhotel does not offer breakfast, although in most of its 120 apartments the cooking facilities are so comprehensive you could feed half the commuters at Wynyard Station. In my apartment there's a dining table with four chairs, a substantial kitchenette with full-sized refrigerator, hotplate, microwave oven, dishwasher and plenty of crockery and cutlery. As luck would have it, as I was checking the cheap rates for The York by Swiss-Belhotel on wotif.com several months ago, I found, with digital flames leaping from the prices, deluxe one-bedroom apartments for the "ridiculous rate" of $170 a night with free parking thrown in. Not bad for accommodation for two in a roomy one-bedroom apartment where you can gaze down on the traffic roaring across the Harbour Bridge and enjoy views north across the bridge. Ugg Boots SaleThe apartment's lounge area is spacious and comfortable; the bathroom, while not large, is elegant and includes a bath and shower as well as a state-of-the-art basin and mirror; the bedroom, separated from the lounge and kitchenette, is big and the queen-sized bed is comfortable. The designers, perhaps under the influence of Ken Done, have painted the feature wall in the lounge room and the main wall in the bedroom a blindingly bright Sydney yellow and there is enough attention to detail to make this feel like a place designed for relaxation. Its location is hard to fault - only a short walk to George Street, and The Rocks and Circular Quay are about 10 minutes' walk away. Access to Sydney transport - the railway at Wynyard Station and the bus termini at Wynyard and Town Hall - is only a few minutes away. UGG Ultra ShortAdd to that the proximity of good Japanese restaurants - the Sagano is downstairs and provides a "room service menu" - and a number of nearby restaurants listed in the Good Food Guide make this is an ideal location for committed foodies. You could stay for a week and dine out in style without ever having to walk for more than 10 minutes. The fact that the meal might cost more than the accommodation should give rise to nothing more than a wry grin. But the real appeal of the location is in its proximity to the harbour. When I stay in Sydney and have a few spare hours I head to Circular Quay with no aim other than to hop on a ferry and mooch around the harbour. UGG Classic Mini 5854 Take the ferry to Cremorne Point and follow the superb harbourside walk around Shell Cove and Mosman Bay and the old Athol ferry to Taronga Zoo. The walks to Sirius Cove and Bradleys Head from the wharf at the zoo are some of the most tranquil retreats on the northern shore of the harbour.Easy access to the harbour and the city's finest restaurants makes The York by Swiss-Belhotel well-priced and rewarding for a weekend break.

Texans beat Bengals 20-19, win 1st AFC South title

CINCINNATI—A rookie got the Houston Texans to a place they've never known, one that seemed ready to disappear when their top two quarterbacks got hurt last month. Instead, T.J. Yates made a little Lone Star history. The fifth-round draft pick led the most important drive in Texans history on Sunday, taking Houston 80 yards in little more than 2 minutes with no timeouts against the Cincinnati Bengals. His 6-yard touchdown pass with 2 seconds left gave Houston a 20-19 win and a division championship. Everyone knew who the star was in the Texans' biggest moment. "We realized what was on the line there," tight end Owen Daniels said. "It is unbelievable what T.J. was able to do, finding people down the field, avoiding the rush and making plays. It was so smooth. I've never seen anything like it." The Texans (10-3) have never done anything like it during their 10-year history as an expansion team. Argyle Knit UGG Boots They've won seven in a row despite losing quarterbacks Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart in consecutive games to season-ending injuries. In stepped Yates, who took them the final step in his second NFL start. "It's pretty crazy," Yates said. "A lot of people in this organization have waited a long time for this. This is a special day for this team and this organization." In a few wild minutes on Sunday, it all came together. They needed to win and have Tennessee lose at home to New Orleans to clinch their first AFC South title. They celebrated on the field when Yates brought the first half of the playoff equation. Then, still in uniform, they huddled around a television in the locker room and watched the Titans lose 22-17. They screamed collectively then passed out championship caps and T-shirts. Receiver Andre Johnson, one of the most long-suffering Texans, got a game ball. "I'm just happy for the city of Houston," said Johnson, who was sidelined by a pulled hamstring. "They deserve it. We've got great fans who have stuck it out with us. Words really can't describe it. It's something I've been waiting for for a long time." It seems the Bengals (7-6) are going to have another year of waiting. They've lost four of their last five, and now need help in order to get the AFC's final wild-card berth. "It's a defeated feeling today," safety Chris Crocker said. "I can't even put into words how bad this hurt." Cincinnati knew it had to beat a team with a rookie quarterback in order to stay in the playoff chase. With their season on the line, the Bengals couldn't do it. "A rookie quarterback beat us today," Crocker said. "He did it with both his arm and his feet. I don't even know what to say. Wow."

Dreams in theme

There is only one way you can respond when you are booked into the themed Moroccan room and your partner finds the belly dancer's outfit in the cupboard. Laugh out loud. That's the whole point of The Retreat @ Froog-Moore Park - it's fun.The first fun decision is to choose your room: the verdant Succulent Suite; the elegant, olive-green Henderson Tribal Room; the dark and amusingly kinky Dungeon; the Moroccan Fantasy; or the Japanese room.We decide to stay in the Japanese room but, fascinated by the entire building, we insist Peter Moore, who owns and runs the retreat with his wife, Sandy, shows us all the rooms. UGG Boots Outlet He shows us the Dungeon; dimly lit, with a riding crop on the black vinyl pillow. Peter proudly informs us that an 80-year-old woman and her 90-year-old husband had recently booked it because ''there are still a few things I want to experience before I die''.The Succulent Suite is the largest room, reminiscent of Edwardian elegance, with its screened verandah, views over the gardens, four-metre glass panels, peaked ceiling with an internal gold dome, private library and private breakfast room. The most modest room is the Henderson, which has been designed for wheelchair access. The room is tastefully decorated with olive-green velvet throws lined with silk burgundy saris, antique crushed green curtains and bamboo blinds. But back to the Japanese room. A huge golden paper fan bearing images of storks, cherry blossoms and chrysanthemums decorates the wall above the bed. There's a collection of images of costumes from a production of Madama Butterfly, liberal use of black and red glazing, wood panelling that evokes a traditional Japanese timber house, a Japanese tea set, a carefully lit geisha doll in a glass case on the wall, black glazed bedside tables and Japanese music on CD.There's an immediate impulse to declare this pure kitsch, but it isn't. The Moores have a finely honed and good-humoured design aesthetic. They know when to stop and they know precisely which details will be evocative. Both have been designers, shopfitters and cabinetmakers for more than 20 years. It almost seems irrelevant to point out that the king-sized bed is deliciously comfortable. The shower recess is large, with no curtain or glass door. A door opens on to a substantial and exquisite garden with native frogs, more than 100 rose bushes, garden seats and an enclosed Japanese garden. This is a purpose-built ''retreat'' constructed in 1990 and featuring a spa room that's notable for the size of its tub and, when you turn off the lights, for the luminous, glow-in-the-dark fish that turn the room into a slightly surreal romantic venue. You can request champagne and chocolates to enjoy while splashing about in the hot, bubbling water.Upstairs there's a spacious dining room with soft lighting, dark walls and a large couch on which to sip pre-dinner drinks. UGG Argyle Knit Boots Sandy Moore is a good and adventurous cook, whose specialty is Moroccan lamb tagine with roasted pumpkin, chickpea salad and spiced couscous. We decide to test the limits of the kitchen with the $60-a-head ''degustation grazing platter'', which might, more accurately, be described as a 10-course mezze. It provides enough food to last the entire weekend. We start with savoury muffins, then proceed to prawns with chilli and lime, salmon with rose gai sauce, UGG Classic ShortThai garlic pork, steamed rice, turkey cakes with cashew pesto, baked lemon chicken legs - pause for breath and digestion - the Moroccan lamb tagine with roasted pumpkin and chickpea salad and leaves with pear and parmesan, dressed with local olive oil. To finish, there's a cheese platter with Sandy's homemade quince paste and seasonal fresh fruit. The meal is a celebration of the fine produce of the Tamworth area. How we manage to line up in the morning for minted spinach and feta pancakes with leg ham, fresh juice, excellent coffee, a fruit platter and Sandy's honey toasted muesli, I'm not quite sure. Certainly, we make it back to Sydney feeling absolutely no desire to stop for a top-up.At a time when too many guest houses are moving towards the banal and perfunctory, Froog-Moore is a reminder that a great retreat was once an excuse for excess - and that is not a bad thing.

Sheung Wan

Hong Kong's creative heart is heading west. Sheung Wan is only a 10-minute walk from Central along Hollywood Road, Hong Kong's unofficial antiques district, along a gravelly grid of steep lanes, past Chinese herbalists, coffin shops and impromptu bric-a-brac markets. The neighbourhood found new life a little more than two years ago when a crop of restaurants, galleries and nightlife spots started moving in."Sheung Wan used to be the sleepy vintage area," says Alan Po, the co-owner of the Press Room Group, which opened the Press Room restaurant here in 2006; the group has since become known for its knack in district reinvention. "People thought we were crazy opening a restaurant on the far side of Hollywood Road. UGG Classic Short But we liked Sheung Wan because it still had a sense of neighbourhood and was without prohibitive rental fees. It's like the 'anti' of shopping malls."It's a Thursday afternoon and Po and I are having lunch at the Press Room, a tiled brasserie with French cottage chairs and a wall stacked with organic and biodynamic wines from artisanal and little-known producers in France. Every table is packed with diners grazing on French-inspired dishes: lobster benedict, steamed mussels Provencal, peppered-beef salad with watercress and parmesan, matched with a long list of wines by the glass.Next door, the Press Group's Classified cafe is also full, with many lunchers spilling outside onto the footpath. It has a French cafe theme, with marble tabletops and hand-painted tile floors, and is best known for serving artisanal cheeses and hams that have been matured at the in-house affinage facility.Sheung Wan's foodie buzz is coming from Yardbird, a no-reservations neck-to-feet chicken restaurant run by former Zuma chef Matt Abergel. The queues are long - be prepared to wait at least an hour - but the charcoal-cooked bird is flawless and goes down a treat with the diner's signature cocktails."When I first moved [to Sheung Wan] there was just traditional business," says Grace Ching, the owner of Loveramics, a boutique selling exquisite handcrafted crockery by Hong Kong designers."Ours was the first boutique. Now there are loads of boutiques, galleries and cafes."Loveramics shares the steep one-way lane of Tung Street with a range of specialised boutiques. UGG Classic Cardy 5819 Opposite, Ellerman is a smart space selling freshly cut sunflowers, cushion covers, notebooks and country-style ceramics by the Amsterdam-based Pip Studio. A few doors away, Identity Art Gallery showcases "visionary art identities", such as those in the current exhibition by Hong Kong-born photographer Kurt Tong. Queen, the Chairman and I includes a series of photographs tracing Tong's family's journey through colonialism, communism and into modern China. Two lanes further west, on both sides of the street Sin Sin Fine Art has galleries featuring artists from China's burgeoning contemporary art scene. On Hollywood Road, the Space is a former meat-packing warehouse transformed into a slick, state-of-the-art multi-function space used for exhibitions, parties and pop-up shops. During my visit, the Space is exhibiting the meticulous but eerie sketches of Australian landscape artist Joshua Yeldham, who expresses his attachment to the NSW Hawkesbury River and the owls that live in that area.

Seafood could carry toxic levels of mercury

That succulent lobster you order at a fancy restaurant might be carrying toxic levels of mercury.University of Alberta researchers found that harmless inorganic mercury, discharged by industry and coal burning, becomes deadly monomethylmercury in the oceans, which progresses through the food chain from small sea creatures to humans.Unborn babies and young infants are particularly sensitive to monomethylmercury`s effects. It causes brain and spinal cord damage. Symptoms are abnormal movements (twisting, jerking, or writhing) of the hands, feet, arms or legs while awake. UGG Bailey Button Boots The research team, led by Alberta doctoral graduate in biological sciences Igor Lehnherr, incubated seawater samples collected from the Canadian Arctic Archipelago, reports the journal Nature Geoscience.Lehnherr says conversion of inorganic mercury to monomethylmercury accounts for approximately 50 percent of this neurotoxin present in polar marine waters. It could account for a significant amount of the mercury found in Arctic marine organisms, according to an Alberta statement.

Yoghurt consumption curbs heart disease

Moderate daily consumption of yoghurt prevents thickening of the carotid artery and keeps heart disease at bay.Dietician Kerry Ivey from Sir Charles Gardener Hospital said lack of research into the effect of dairy products on cartoid thickening agent CCA-IMT necessitated the study."In general, dairy products get a bit of a bad rap in regard to cardiovascular disease, but there has been a demonstrated cardiovascular benefit in probiotic and yoghurt consumption," adds Ivey, according to the journal American Society for Nutrition. UGG Classic Cardy The trial used a cohort of 1,080 Perth women over the age of 70, who had been randomly selected for a `Calcium Intake and Fracture Outcome Study`, according to a Sir Charles Gardner statement.Participants answered questionnaires with the aid of a research assistant who used food models, cups, spoons and charts to ensure identical measurements representing consumption were used.Three different measurements of the left and right carotid arteries at two different angles were averaged out to find the participants mean (average) IMT (intima-media thickness), both initially and after three years. Those with a high to moderate yoghurt consumption of 100 grams per day or above had significantly lower CCA-IMT than those with yoghurt consumption of 100 grams per day or less.Research also highlighted that high milk and cheese consumption equalled higher CCA-IMT compared with high yogurt consumption.

Benefits of physical activity last long

Physical activity in early adulthood ensures the maintenance of physical performance as we age, according to a new study.
"Maintaining physical performance and muscle strength with age is important given that lower levels in older populations are associated with increased risk of subsequent health problems, loss of independence, and shorter survival times," commented lead investigator Rachel Cooper, PhD, Medical Research Council (MRC) Unit for Lifelong Health and Ageing. "As the global population ages, there is a growing need to identify modifiable factors across life that influence physical performance and strength in later life. We found that there are cumulative benefits of physical activity across adulthood on physical performance in mid-life," she added. Ugg Boots Sale The study used data from about 2400 men and women from the UK Medical Research Council National Survey of Health and Development. They analysed self-reported leisure time physical activity (LTPA) levels at 36, 43 and 53 years of age. During the 53-year investigation, grip strength, standing balance, and chair rise times were measured as indicators of strength and physical performance. Researchers found that participants who were more active at all three ages showed better performance on the chair-rise test. Persons more active at ages 43 and 53 had better performance on the standing balance test, even after adjusting for covariates. However, physical activity and grip strength were not associated in women and, in men, only physical activity at age 53 was associated with grip strength. The study has been published in the American journal of Preventive Medicine.

Burning more sugar drives super athleticism

Muscle fitness drives super athleticism, especially when their cells efficiently utilise sugar as a fuel source, a study reveals.Conversely, exercising improves the muscle`s ability to take up sugar from the bloodstream and burn it for energy. Argyle Knit UGG Boots On the flip side, conditions that reduce physical activity, such as obesity or chronic disease, reduce the muscle`s capacity to burn sugar.A new study from Sanford-Burnham Medical Research Institute (Sanford-Burnham) unravels a mechanism that re-programmes metabolic genes in muscles to boost their capacity to use sugar, the journal Genes & Development reported. When activated in mice, this metabolic re-programming dramatically improves exercise performance, according to a university statement. "Essentially, these transgenic mice are capable of storing and burning sugars at rates usually only seen in the trained athlete," said researcher Daniel P. Kelly. Kelly`s mice are special because they`re engineered to produce the protein PPARß/d in their muscle tissue. Previous studies have shown that mice with high PPARß/d levels in their muscles have increased exercise capacity. Kelly and his team discovered why that is -- the muscles of PPARß/d mice are better than normal mice at taking up sugar from the bloodstream, storing it and burning it for energy.

It time to put the Ugg on again

Now I personally feel that Ugg boots are definitely a love them or hate them product. Myself UGG Boots Outlet I love them others I know would not be seen dead them.My review today is on my beloved pair of Bailey Button Ugg boots.Ugg boots are made from sheepskin leather with the sheepskin fur being on the inside. The sole of my boots are synthetic and hard wearing. Ugg boots come in a variety of designs and colours including 'Classic tall' which are the basic fluffy boot which come to the middle of your shin. 'Classic Short' which come to around your ankle. Classic Short Fancy which come to your ankle but have a special pattern on them not just plain. 'Bailey Button' which are like Classic Short but with a slight split up the side with a button on each ankle. There are also a variety of knitted Uggs again in a variety of lengths and colours. My Bailey Button Uggs are black and I had them last Christmas after wanting them for years. I had wore lots of pairs of 'fake uggs' you know the ones you get for a under £10 and each pair had dropped to bits and I had found they also made me walk funny putting more pressure on the sides of my feet and the soles wore away quickly. I got my pair from an online website I don't want to say which one because I can not remember 100% and I would hate to direct you to one which sells dodgy goods. There are alot of websites out there which sell fakes and all have similar UGG Classic Mini Boots names so just beware of this. Anyway mine cost £125 they are around £160 in the shops sometimes more.To look at them they have a black suede effect to the foot and you can see the black fur inside around the sole of the foot the stitching is visible and on the ankle is a large button with Ugg written all around it and elastic which fits around the button to hold the boot in place. On the back of my boot is the Ugg logo stitched on this has become a game me and my boyfriend play now I have become a 'Ugg snob' we guess who has real ones and who is wearing fakes when we go shopping lol. My boyfriend always used to say you couldn't tell the difference but he knows better now lol. On the sole is the Ugg Australia trademark with a pattern around it which reminds me a bit of the sun beams of light coming from it. Inside the boot is the Ugg Australia label and name of boot.To but them on your feet is simply heavenly Ugg boots are so comfortable. The fur hugs your ankles and keeps your feet cozy without making them to hot. Personally I prefer to wear my Uggs with socks but you can wear them without as the fleece inside draws the heat away from your feet so they don't get sweaty yet stay warm. From wearing fakes to real you can really tell the difference I was really surprised at how stable and supported my feet felt when I put them on. After wearing 'fake' ones for so long and feeling like I was holding them on with my toes all the time it was a welcome change. You can buy 'Ugg care kits' which consist of special Ugg cleaner and conditioner, a special formula which you can put on your boots to protect them from water and stains and a double sided brush to rub out scuffs and keep your boots looking good. These can be purchased online for around £25 which is a bit pricey but then so are the boots and it's worth it to keep them in good condition.5 UGG Roxy Tall Boots stars to my lovely Uggs and I am glad its getting colder now so I can start wearing them again. I wear mine with either tracksuit bottoms or skinny jeans. Hopefully this Christmas I shall be having a knitted pair then I shall review them too.

There was barely a ripple

"It was February and it was hot and he wore an orange jumper, very heavy type, and yellow corduroy trousers, and Rosetta Stone Language so then he heard my accent and the next question was, 'What do you think of von Ribbentrop?', which confirmed my first impression that after the clothes, this is a mad guy. My luck. But his voice was interesting." They ended up back at Kirby's place in Kirribilli and have been together ever since. "We've often talked about ... the chance that each of us made a decision to go to that venue that night and how different our lives would have been had we not made that decision," Kirby says, calling it a reminder of how "propinquity and chance play a great part in human relationships". "And when you speak to straight people you find the same stories, it's just a matter of luck. You've got to be very lucky in life to find somebody who will put up with you ... I have been very lucky." It's when Kirby describes his life leading up to that meeting that you understand why he considers it such a gift. In keeping with the times, his sexuality something of which he had been aware since puberty, and which he regarded as an unchangeable fact of life nonetheless had to remain hidden. "At the time," he says, "I thought, 'Well, this is just how it is.' Not the natural order of things but the way society mistakenly was organising itself and this was just what was expected of me. I had a sexual life but it was always a fantasy life. It was all suppressed. And that was a hard journey, especially suppressing things to the people who were most important to you." Did he have girlfriends? "No. And I never had walkers. I had women friends. But I never really pretended to be something that I wasn't. I wasn't always direct about who I was but I wasn't deceitful about it or suggesting something that I wasn't." Kirby was acutely conscious of what was at stake. Growing up, his family firmly believed he might one day be prime minister, and a political career did cross his mind. But: "Two things stood like the Titanic iceberg in the way." Attending a Labor Party branch meeting, he discovered he was bored numb by the political game. "And the second impediment was my sexuality. It was rumoured in my youth that Edward Heath in Britain was gay and he rose to be prime minister but he had a very empty life. I'd Language Learning Software grown up in a loving family and with loving relationships, and I just didn't see that as an option really." So he focused on the law, a career that would take him to the pinnacle of the Australian legal system in a profession in which he believed he could at least lead a discreet gay life. "I obeyed the rule of don't ask, don't tell, which is essentially a rule imposed by the majority which can handle variations within it, of knowing that there are gay people and not worrying too much about that but they don't want to think about it. And they don't want to have its reality forced upon them." Kirby and van Vloten grew adept at keeping their relationship under wraps. "Sydney was like most towns, where homosexuality was not pronounced," van Vloten tells the ABC. "You had to camouflage ... as best you could. There were things you could not do ... We always realised that was going to be a difficulty, [and] he had far more to lose than I had." Though their families knew and were accepting, outside their inner circle "don't ask, don't tell" remained the rule. But as attitudes towards homosexuality loosened, Kirby says, he increasingly came to believe that his being gay was an open secret particularly when he became a high-profile campaigner on AIDS issues in the 1980s. "That was sort of code language for my sexuality," he says. Paul Keating, he is certain, knew the truth when he named Kirby to the High Court in 1996. Three years later, the judge came out in Who's Who. There was barely a ripple. "The non-secret is out," The Canberra Times editorialised. "I think it is a good thing to have done it," he says now. "Mind you, I think the attack on me in the Senate was one consequence of that, so you shouldn't deceive yourself into thinking that it's all an easy road. Some people get very upset about such things." Some people, indeed Liberal senator Bill Heffernan in particular. In 02, Heffernan used the protection of parliamentary privilege to unleash an extraordinary attack on Kirby and van Vloten, quoting from a fabricated document to accuse the justice of using Commonwealth cars to pick up male prostitutes in Sydney. The senator was forced to resign his parliamentary secretary's post when the fraud was exposed and he publicly apologised not before Kirby and van Vloten had endured a week of public humiliation. Eight years on, Kirby betrays no sign of anger but insists it is a subject he hates having to discuss. "I'd rather not talk about it really because every time I do so, it becomes part of my life," he says "Do you know, if you Google Johan's name, what comes up is not Rosetta Stone Italian this prudent, loving, faithful companion.

The art of selling

Video settings 'Old Spice Man' flirts with Bondi Beach Internet sensation Isaiah 'Old Spice' Mustafa Rosetta Stone outlet deploys a charm offensive on Bondi Beach while promoting a new phone. Video feedback Video settings There's not much to say about body wash really. It smells nice, it cleans you, and unlike soap, hairs won't stick to it. End of story, you might think. But throw in a handsome guy in a towel, a kitsch '80s action hero aesthetic, some priceless lines and the giddy reach of the internet and the narrative possibilities are legion. This year, tens of millions of people visited YouTube to watch a deep-voiced American actor, Isaiah Mustafa, spruik body wash in some TV ads, then answer fans' questions in a torrent of kooky, personalised videos. Old Spice's YouTube videos attracted more than 100 million views, making theirs the most watched sponsored channel ever. Mustafa got a movie deal, of course, while his more famous lines ("Hello, ladies...Look at your man. Now back to me") entered popular discourse. The ads won an Emmy award and sparked numerous online parodies (including a choice one from Sesame Street's Grover). Even World Vision chief Tim Costello got in on the act: posting a crazy-brave video of himself in a bathrobe, reworking Old Spice Guy's lines, in an effort to attract charity donors. Advertisement: Story continues below Grover spoofs the Old Spice ad for Sesame Street. The Old Spice Guy phenomenon shows the power of viral advertising: quirky videos that take off via online word of mouth. It's a telling example, too, of how advertising is morphing into entertainment. No one forced people to watch these ads. They sought them out. And once they had seen them, thousands sent Mustafa messages in fervent hope of an answer. How could so many Rosetta Stone Spanish Spain people get so excited about an actor flogging body wash? The same way, perhaps, that around 14 million folk have become Coca-Cola's Facebook fans. On the ?internet, the lines between advertising and independent content are blurring. For younger people especially, clever ads can be a source of fun. Some feel a sense of loyalty towards particular brands and quite a few want to make ads. When Cadbury invited Australians to film themselves eating a Picnic bar in a 30-second TV spot, ,000 people ? submitted videos. Once, advertising was the art of persuasion. Today, argues James Othmer, an American ad man turned author, it's the art of engagement. He thinks the age of "inflicted media" assailing us with ads has given way to one where consumers increasingly control interaction with the brand. The Gruen Transfer team. Those of us who feel bombarded by marketing messages 24 hours a day might beg to differ with Othmer. We all know the ad cliches by nowhousewife inspecting a stain on her whites; superannuated couple holding hands on a beach; farmer surveying sun-kissed fields; bloke ogling bikini girls but more in love with his burgerand many of us are sick of them. A recent British study found nearly 90 per cent? of those with digital video recorders edited out TV ads. These days, the language of marketing is so pervasive that even political parties and people can be described as brands. Most brands sell a feeling rather than the merits of a product. They like to "own" emotions, as Rosetta Stone Spanish V3 Othmer puts it. (One fast-food client of his modestly wanted to "own" happiness.) "We are looking to brands for poetry and for spirituality," Naomi Klein has famously said, "because we're not getting those things from our communities or from each other." Yet at the same time, advertising can no longer be cast merely as an intrusion.

'Second Life' Sex Program Spawns Lawsuit

Kevin Alderman didn't bring sex to "Second Life." He just made it better. The 46-year-old Rosetta Stone outlet entrepreneur recognized four years ago that people would pay to equip their online selves which start out with the smooth anatomy of a Barbie or Ken doll with realistic genitalia and even more to add some sexy moves. Business at Eros LLC has been brisk. One of his creations, the SexGen Platinum, has gotten so popular that he's now had to hire lawyers to track down the flesh-and-blood person behind the online identity, or avatar, that he says illegally copied and sold it. The $45 SexGen animates amorous avatars in erotic positions. It is software code, written in the scripting language of "Second Life" and placed in virtual furniture and other objects. Avatars click on the object and choose from a menu of animated sex acts. Advertisement: Story continues below Alderman filed a civil lawsuit in U.S. District Court in Tampa, Fla., last month alleging an avatar named "Volkov Catteneo" broke the program's copy protection and sold unauthorized copies. Alderman, who runs his business from home in a Tampa suburb, allows users to transfer his products, but prohibits copying. "We confronted him about it and his basic response was, 'What are you going to do? Sue me?'" Alderman said. "I guess the mentality is that because you're an avatar ... that you are untouchable. The purpose of this suit is not only to protect our income and our product, but also to show, yes, you can be prosecuted and brought to justice." Catherine Smith, director of marketing for "Second Life" creator Linden Lab, said she knew of no other real-world legal fight between two avatars. However, Linden Labs itself has been sued more than once by subscribers over seizures of virtual property. In , Japanese media reported that a Chinese exchange student was arrested for stealing virtual items from other players in an online game, "Lineage II." "Second Life" isn't a game. There are no dragons to slay or other traditional game objectives. San Francisco-based Linden Lab describes it as "an online digital world imagined, created owned by its residents." Linden Lab provides a free basic Rosetta Stone Japanese avatar, a 3-D virtual representation of the user in male or female form. Everything else costs real money. A 16-acre virtual island costs $1,675 plus monthly maintenance fees of $295. Virtual money, called Lindens, can be exchanged with real dollars at an average rate of about 0 Lindens per $1. Avatars can be equipped with flowing gowns and tiny tattoos, and users with programming and Photoshop skills can reshape themselves into a virtual Greta Garbo or just about any shape imaginable. With a little cash, users can also have people like Alderman transform the avatars for them. At Alderman's "Second Life" shop, shoppers can try out a dragon bed powered by one of his SexGen engines. Along with programmers and designers, he employs a sales staff who hang around the shop like real salespeople to pitch the perfect sex toys. He is investing in a $25,000 motion-capture suit, a low-end version of one used to create digital characters in movies, to create more realistic sex moves for "Second Life" avatars. As customers demand more real life in their "Second Life," though, these virtual creations can collide with reality. "Virtually every aspect of real life is getting duplicated, and all the laws that can be applied to the real world are being applied in 'Second Life,'" said Jorge Contreras Jr., an intellectual-property attorney in Washington, D.C. Last year, "Second Life" was rocked by a scandal over users who had modified their avatars to look like children and simulated pedophilia. Last month, Linden Lab shut down gambling in "Second Life" after concerns arose that Rosetta Stone Portuguese virtual games of chance might violate U.S. gambling laws when members cashed in Lindens for real money.

On the Button with Tommy

JOHN Button, the former Hawke and Keating government minister, was Rosetta Stone a small, snowy-haired man with a razor-sharp edge to his intellect and a love of the Geelong Football Club that was as long and as wide as a river. Indeed, it could be said that Geelong brought out the boy in the man otherwise remembered for "the Button car plan". Button died in 08 and on Wednesday I went to Skilled Stadium to deliver the first John Button Memorial Oration for the Geelong Cats Sports Foundation. My subject: That Tom Wills is an Australian legend no less than Ned Kelly or Burke and Wills. I drove down a few hours early and took the opportunity to motor out to Point Henry, on the edge of Geelong. This is where Tom Wills's mother was living when, one day in January 1867, a dray pulled up outside her house and a handful of white men and Aboriginal men jumped off. Advertisement: Story continues below A few weeks earlier, Tommy had captained the Australian Native XI at the MCG. Most of Melbourne turned out to see the representatives of what was then regarded as a dying race. This was the same Aboriginal cricket team that would become the first Australian cricket team to tour England. The drama that day at Port Henry in 1867 was that Mrs Wills, in all likelihood, had not seen an Aboriginal person since her husband was murdered by one, or a number thereof, six years earlier in Queensland. More than whites died and, in the retributive raids that followed, lots more Aborigines were killed. Now Tommy, one of only two to survive the massacre, had come without warning to introduce his Aboriginal teammates to his mother. Why? In his biography of Tommy, Greg de Moore sees it as evidence of his "characteristic lack of forethought". I see it as the Rosetta Stone Language action of a man in a tragically divided land trying to heal the division within himself. Maybe we're both right. Wills grew up at Moyston, outside Ararat, speaking Tjapwurrung, the local Aboriginal language. He knew Tjapwurrung songs, dances and games. In 1880, aged and an alcoholic, he killed himself. I find Tom Wills endlessly fascinating and it was great to talk about him at the home of the Geelong Football Club, for if Tommy ever had a football home it was Geelong. The Cats, it must be remembered, are one of the oldest football clubs in the world and Tommy was one of their formative influences. John Harms was there on Wednesday night. Harms wrote an amusing piece on the Footy Almanac website this week about taking his three-year-old son to see the Cats play Carlton in a practice match. At the end, the kid cheered Carlton. This was not the plan. Harms barracks for Geelong like Argentinians barrack for Argentina in the round-ball game. As always, his analysis of three or four players he chose to comment on was first-class. He has a gift for capturing the essence of a player in a couple of words and, in that way, calls the game better than anyone else but he never continues in that vein for very long because he's enthralled by the social side of the game. The Almanac, which Harms started with Paul Daffey, is to fledgling footy writers what a free pub is to drinkers. It gives fans all over Australia the chance to go to a game and then write down what - in the words of the immortal Johnny O'Keefe - makes them want to shout! Col Hutchinson, the Geelong historian, was at the John Button night. Based on reports he's read, Hutchinson said that as a player Tommy was strong, quick and nimble. Also there was Fred Flanagan, captain of the 1951-52 premiership teams. Fred fought in New Guinea during the Second World War, was recommended for his bravery, came home and was recruited by the Cats. I interviewed Fred just before the 07 finals series. The first question I asked him was: ''Where are your Flanagans from?'' Fred didn't know. His father left home when Fred was an infant. Fred never met him, never heard the Flanagan side of his story. After that answer, we talked footy. Fred was greatly impressed by Rosetta Stone German Tom Harley and said Geelong had the discipline to win. Then, as I was leaving, Fred chanced to tell me a second story about his father. He only learnt this second story when he was in his 60s. A cousin told him. Fred's father used to go to the footy each week and watch Fred play. I claim Fred as family now - it's such a Flanagan story. Wednesday was a great night, pretty much like the Geelong Football Club was 135 years ago, everyone talking about Tom Wills.

Friday prayers come to a close in Tahrir Square

Protesters in Tahrir Square wave banners and shout slogans calling for Rosetta Stone Language Mubarak to stand down. The Middle East and the whole world waits to see what will happen in Tahrir Square. Will the crowds disperse as the army has urged? Will people march to key locations in Cairo such as the state television building or the president's palace? Crowds have already assembled in both places. A dramatic moment. History could be in the making as Friday prayers come to a close in Tahrir Square. The square is completely thronged with people as the time for the mass rallies approaches. Three Egyptian officers shed their weapons and uniforms and join hundreds of thousands of protesters demanding the immediate overthrow of President Hosni Mubarak, witnesses say. "They joined the crowd, smiling, and chanted slogans calling for the fall of the regime," student Omar Gamal tells AFP from Cairo's Tahrir Square, the focal point of the protests. "Thousands of enraged demonstrators are protesting in front of the television building," reports AFP photographer Marco Longari. In Tahrir Square the sheikh leading the prayers Language Learning Software faints towards the end of his sermon, but not before he called on the army to "act in a way that will be acceptable to God on judgement day." Egyptian demonstrators react with fury as the military throws its weight behind President Mubarak's attempt to cling on to power despite massive nationwide protests. Protesters outside Mubarak's palace erupt angrily and one grabs an army officer's microphone to denounce the move. "You have disappointed us, all our hopes rested in you," he shouts, as the crowd begin to chant slogans calling for Mubarak to be put on trial. The BBC's Persian television service is being jammed from within Iran following coverage of the mass protests against President Hosni Mubarak's rule in Egypt, the broadcaster says. BBC Persian TV has been working with the BBC's Arabic TV service to broadcast rolling news from Egypt, and the broadcaster believes it is this coverage which has prompted the jamming which began yesterday Friday prayers are under way in Tahrir Square. The army's statement says it is committed to "safeguarding the legitimate demands of the people and will work Hindi Learning Software to implement them ... for a peaceful transition of power and a free democratic society."

The nine-month operation began

The nine-month operation began in February, when the AFP noticed large amounts of Rosetta Stone Software money being moved offshore and began a money laundering investigation. The investigation, code-named Operation Avalon, eventually brought together the AFP, the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service, the Queensland Police Service and authorities in Vanuatu. The Friday Freedom was allegedly used in a drug smuggling operation. In September, the ACBPS flagged a yacht called Friday Freedom, moored at Port Vila in Vanuatu and scheduled to sail to Australia. They believed the yacht had connections to a crime syndicate. Mr Zuccato said Friday Freedom was sailed from Vanuatu to Australia by a 35-year-old man and a 37-year-old woman, who arrived in Bundaberg on October 20. In a move he called very patient, the yacht sat in the marina for three weeks before their partners in Sydney and Gold Coast made a move. Cocaine concealed inside a suitcase. An individual from Sydney received Rosetta Stone Language some information and decided they were ready to go, Mr Zuccato said. They had been communicating with the people on the boat, three weeks is a long time to wait. They were very patient. Last Thursday, the 38-year-old man allegedly drove from Sydney to the Gold Coast where he stayed at the residence of a 39-year-old man at Surfers Paradise. Mr Zuccato said they drove from the Gold Coast to Bundaberg the next morning and boarded the yacht. The pair had hired a Corolla and a Pajero and allegedly left the boat with about 100 kilograms worth of cocaine in two suitcases. They loaded the suitcases into the cars and started to drive away. That is when the decision was made to move in on them for security reasons, Mr Zuccato said. Police arrested the two men driving away and the two people on the Friday Freedom before they moved the yacht to a dry dock to be searched. They allegedly found more cocaine, which had been wrapped in black tape and plastic to keep it dry and stored in the hull of the boat. Mr Zuccato said police were interviewing the foursome and believed the 38-year-old to be a kingpin in the international crime syndicate. This is really only the beginning of investigations, he said. Police believe the cocaine originated from South America and they are not sure where exactly where it was destined once it Rosetta Stone Hindi was taken off the yacht, but police believed it had no connection to Schoolies Week. The cocaine will be forensically examined before being burnt in industrial incinerators.

One quote stuck in my mind however

Sentient Developments has a nice piece on the one in a billion years chance that Rosetta Stone planned experiments at CERN will create a black hole which will destroy the earth. It's a good general piece on some of the dilemmas associated with scientific research and I commend it. Compared with some of the other ways in which we could go, a black hole would be a relatively clean death I suppose, with the odd chance of being transferred to a parallel universe in which the Treaty of Montgomery was honored by Edward I and his successors. One quote stuck in my mind however: Three years ago, Max Tegmark and Nick Bostrom wrote a piece for Nature in which they to a stab at the question. They warned that humanity has been lulled into a false sense of security Rosetta Stone Software and that "the fact that the Earth has survived for so long does not necessarily mean that such disasters are unlikely, because observers are, by definition, in places that have avoided destruction."Most of the popular management bos you find (and a fair number of the articles) seem to be take a similar perspective. They seem to think that there success is a result of things that they did, rather than the fact that they just happen to be amongst those who survived. Now I don't want to take a fatalist view here. I think we can make a difference. However success that Rosetta Stone Portuguese cannot be matched back to a validated theory is more likely to a result of accident than design.

That is the number of words I have written on this blog

That link is to a diagram I have created to try and encapsulate my understandings Rosetta Stone Language and reflections on all the above subjects, while also attempting to include my idea of an "emergent interpretant" which manifests itself at the epicentre of interpretive, subjective, objective. As you can see in the diagram, things almost always get to the point where people delusionally think/expect a word to actually have a meaning in the present, which was created inthe past, and then contemplated to be permanent into the present. and as if they act accordingly, it will continue into the future a certain way. Just reflect back on all the arguments you have had with people regarding the "correct" definition of a word. Sure it makes practical sense. but not logical sense. but who cares about logic, thats a flawed system as well (look to Godel's theorem of incompleteness, and then think twice about using a formal axiomatic system). the point being that we should reflect on the presence of passion in regards to what drives us. rather than trying to escape it through the prism of science. That is the number of words I have written on this blog since I started it in July 2006. I just asked Ron (who looks after our web site with speed and professionalism) to extract the material for me so I could start to go through it for the book. That is over 25K a month, the equivalent of two to three articles. OK writing articles requires more effort, and there will be duplication in a lot of the material (although scanning it today less than I thought). Aside from proving to me that I can finish the book (20% of that will do) it also showed that writing in fragments over time, and getting comments back is a Language Learning Software better way of working out ideas. Even if no one comments you are having a conversation in a blog . At least in the idea that science can provide any objective "answers".Funny how we continue to look for reassurance outside of ourselves, rather than accept that we cannot ever escape ourselves.Ok, so what are some examples of an "emergent interpretant", which what I mean by that, is that it hijacks the individuals capacity to interpret, because the individual comes to believes that something actually has intrinsic value in the present.Examples are marriages, countries, monetary systems, companies, laws, as well as very simple everyday things like walking on a sidewalk. You can find evidence of the emergent interpretants in language such as , "the rule of law and order", or "I shouldn't be doing this, I am married", or "fiat money has no intrinsic value, but gold does".The reason I say this is because of temporal concerns. Ok so, lets say I want to buy some apples. so I go to the store and I see a sign that says "$1 per apple", well does that actually mean that the price of an apple is $1, or does that set an exchange rate in stone? If you believe it does, then that is actually the emergent interpretant in control. because nothing can actually be worth anything specifically until it is exchanged as such. but at which point after the transaction it moves to the past. so in order for anything to equal anything in the present, it requires a contemplation of permanence of the past into the present.Your country, your marriage, your company, your relationships to anything, do not exist in the present. it is how you think, believe, and act in the present in correspondence to other interactants, that the relationships will be maintained or persisted or constructed or deconstructed as such. Dont take them for granted, as actually existing in the present. we must "bring them forth". and not let them "bring us forth".Any relationship I think will fail when the people involved let the construct become greater than they are. you must always work to keep the construct in check, and keep it as an emergent construct of your independent selfs. This has value I think in well practically anything regarding two or more individuals.Ill try and explain better later, as well as provide some additional diagrams.Oh and this Rosetta Stone Italian is the diagram for freedom vs.
